Book Cover & Influencer PR Kit

Not all that glitters is gold, but this design sure is!

The process...

the concept

The goal of the original project was to create a dust jacket for a story from the Brothers Grimm catalogue. The story of my choosing was Rumplestiltskin which I retitled Aureate, a snappier title to help it more fit as a Young Adult or Teen fantasy book. Part 2 would be an influencer PR kit for the faux release of the book including custom items.

starting out

As with my usual workflow, this project began with a brainstorming page for the book cover and evolved into a couple variations of moodboards, then thumbnails and finally the final cover. Next came the design for the merch itself: the enamel pin, sticker, bookmark, and candle.

development

Once this was sorted it was to the computer to create my vector illustrations for the custom products, which once completed became a real life influencer kit!

the cover

As this was for a project, I was working under the assumption that the measurements we were given were for a standard hardback dustjacket, boy was I wrong. Though with some tweaking and finding the right size book in my collection everything fit together in the end. The final book looks like it came straight out of the book store!

the box

I wish I had a CNC machine or the cash to have doled out for a one-off cardboard printed box because phew, cutting and pasting all of the edges securely was more than just a feat, it was a journey. As with the cover I had some measurement issues but nothing that couldn't be tweaked!

fin

Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this turned out (and that's saying something). Aside from a few problems spawned from my eyeballing of the designs and some printing malfunctions, the final product looks ultra sleek. I'd be more than tempted to pick this up in store to add to my TBR list!
